Palazzo Vecchio seen from the Uffizi
The colonnade of the Uffizi begins at the Loggia della Signoria.
Vasari realized it between 1560 and 1574 under order of Cosimo I De' Medici and
it was later on modified by Buontalenti to place several art works owned by
the "De'Medici" family whose collection of masterpieces increased with the inheritance
of Francesco Maria della Rovere that added works by Raphael and Titian.
Later on, cardinal Leopold's collection, inherited by his nephew Cosimo II,
further enriched the Uffizi gallery wich was eventually
passed to the city of Florence by the "De' Medici" family.
